Chapter 249 - What Could Go Wrong[]

Thazi (Independent System)
17th December, 3046

President David Mitchell sat at his desk and looked at the paperwork that never seemed to stop flowing. Most of it were reports on various projects and really did not even require his reading them, but he figured if someone took the time to compile it, then it should be his duty to actually read it. He pulled the first folder and opened it up and began reading the multi-page report dealing with the various crops that had been planted and harvested over the year. All the typing was really not needed, he worked better off the summary which had totals and numbers on them.

3047 Projections are a rough estimate due to the projected completion of fishing vessels and learning the industry. Most will be consumed locally and not commercially viable for sale. We do not project a current crop increase until such time as we can begin export to other locations than Wokha. These are projections only and should not be used for budget reasons.

He opened the next binder which was from Reinhard Gleinfeld about Solar Metals operations on Wokha.

The increasing production of the Federated Commonwealth mining stations is cutting into our own sells to the Federated Commonwealth. They are undercutting our prices and our expenses are rising drastically as the economy here completely switched to the D-Bill as a local currency. The local purchasing agent, newly arrived is also demanding that we release our mined gold for sale but at a discounted price.

President Mitchell set aside the folders. It would seem that the Federated Commonwealth folks were trying to push them off Wokha, but he also had the ace, he provided almost all of their food. If the FC was going to play a price cutting game on the various ores, he would raise prices on the food items. They were already providing their own transport, so that cut them off from freight charges, but they could either pay what he wanted or ship the stuff in from the Inner Sphere proper, at a much higher expense.
