Chapter 166 - What Could Go Wrong[]

SaRI Temporary HQ
Thazi (Former Outworld System)
1st August, 3044

It had been some very long days for the new command group in organizing a TOE that made some sense to everyone involved. The largest hurdle had been in forming the Jump Infantry Regiment. The Vector VTOL that they would be using could not lift an entire Jump Infantry platoon, so after much thought they had all agreed on a TOE that managed to fit the profile of the Vector VTOL. Each Company would have four platoons, three Company to the Battalion and three Battalions with the VTOL Battalion assigned. Each battalion would have a command platoon and the Regiment would have a short Command Company. The transport Companies were organized so that each Company could transport one Jump Infantry Company with 2 Vector VTOL needed for each platoon. They all sat back and looked at the new organization.

"Bigger than I am used to commanding, but I can make this work. I would love to be able to haul everyone at one time, but with what we have on hand, I can still get deployed quick enough." Colonel Alfred Dortman said to everyone present before looking at now Major Wendall Collins "You're sure you are okay with my taking command of the Regiment?"

"Yes, Sir. We were short a Battalion commander anyway and the Company commanders are not ready for Battalion command yet." Major Collins replied

"Now that our largest hurdle is out of the way, Captain Croyle, your now Major Croyle. Have you completed work on your TOE?" Major General Mitchell asked

"Yes, Sir. It is going to be an oversized Battalion if we deploy everyone at once, but we have a ton of work that needs to be done here on Thazi, so I have a deployable command along with a rear detachment planned. If Captain Davis could put it up on the screen for everyone to view." Now Major Harold Croyle replied as the new TOE was displayed. "This is our deployable structure. Total strength of 456 personnel. I feel this makes the best use of what we have. Plus, the engineering support staying here on Thazi to continue improving what needs done here. I did not list them but that is 3 Engineering Vehicles, several Carbine Construction Mechs and roughly 283 personnel. We should be able to handle just about anything that we need to do."

"Very well, anyone have any issues or concerns on the TOE for the 2597th Engineer Brigade?" Major General Mitchell asked and nodded when Brigadier General Wesley Erikson raised his hand slightly "Go ahead."

"Not a concern, but the naming question, for those that might not know yet." Brigadier General Erikson said

"Yes, that could be important. For any that do not know yet, we have adopted the former SLDF names for all of our subunits under SaRI. It is honor of the fallen and we are using their equipment after all. Any other questions before we move on? No, then Colonel Woodall, you can now lay out your Regiment." Major General Mitchell said

"Captain Davis, if you would be so kind as to lay out the TOE for the Battlemechs please." Colonel James Woodall said continuing while the new TOE loaded up. "The 200th Royal Light Horse will differ slightly from what it originally had. The primary force structure is the same, but with some slight changes having been made to it. I removed the Padilla Artillery from the Regimental Command Company along with the Prime Movers, we do not have enough people qualified to man them anyway nor the ammunition to waste training them. But this is what I came up with and I included the breakdown for the 199th Light Horse and what we will have on hand for a garrison here on Thazi."

"As you can see, very little changed with the 200th, but we had to slot in some equipment since we gave the AFFC some of their original Battlemechs. I formed the Thazi garrison with everything we had left, Battlemech wise. I have enough pilots to man up the 200th and 199th Light Horse, but not enough for the garrison force. Unless we get some more pilots in the next personnel load. I have a few extra pilots, so if push came to shove, I could man up one Company of the garrison force, but I like the idea of having some spare pilots in the line units.

I think this is about as balanced of force structure we can field. The 200th is our main striking power, fast and agile. The 199th, though powerful in its own way, not as powerful. But it should be able to handle any pirate force they run into. I promoted Captain Felicia Cafferty to Major, and she is in command of the 199th Light Horse. She was ready for a Battalion anyway." Colonel James Woodall said

"Okay, it has been a long day. We will finish laying out the rest of the command tomorrow. Let's get some dinner and a good night's sleep." Major General Mitchell announced.

  • Notes from the Author
The 7 man squad is 1.5 tons per everything I found. So 3 squads takes two Vector VTOL. I toyed with making them 4 squad platoons to round it out better. Still might down the road some. Maybe even make them a square formation, 4 squad, 4 platoon, 4 company, 4 battalion. For a grand total of 1,792 man Jump Infantry Regiment.
