Description[]
The Kapteyn Universe is a series of sourcebooks and short stories written chiefly by Battletech Fan, Matthew "Blacknova" Alexander and other fans. The universe shown as "What If scenario" is in 3022 set prior to the break out of the Fourth Succession War, where the Concord of Kapteyn (better known as the Kapteyn Accords) treaty was brokered by ComStar and signed between three major Succession Houses (House Liao, House Marik, and House Kurita). Which they would form an alliance against pending forming super-state created by House Davion and House Steiner named Federated Commonwealth. In the canon universe, this proved to be unworkable alliance between the three Succession Houses, however, the Kapteyn Universe is where it was successful.
Canonicity[]
This universe is similar to the BattleTech Universe, while the Inner Sphere early conflict as of this writing is virtually the same for the Inner Sphere up to early 3020s when canon is changed. The Fourth Succession War is different, the military campaign to unify House Davion & Steiner have failed, while unexpected revolution accrues among the Terran natives of ComStar and the Terran Hegemony is resurrected with ComStar's demise.
However, the early time period of the Clans is different where both sons of the Alexandr Kerensky both survive the Operation KLONDIKE, changing the temperament and number of Clans surviving their Golden Century, with all 20 Clans. For the Inner Sphere, main theme of the Kapteyn Univserse, was the success of the Kapteyn Accords cementing the alliance which would succeed in preventing the Federated Commonwealth from forming during the Fourth Succession War and arrise of a new Hegemony in the after math of the conflicts. In additional some technology is present where in regular canon universe it did not exist, such as re-introduction of WarShips in the early 31st Century instead of after the Clans had invaded by mid century.
Series Content[]
The sourcebooks & shortstories were written leading up to the Kapteyn Accords being sign to the Invasion of the Clans. Also created to assist in game play, war maps of troop movement during the featured events which changed the course of history of the universe from the original canon universe.
Development[]
The Kapteyn Universe owes it's existence due to a large group player game utilizing BattleTech Strategic Game / Inner Sphere in Flames campaign rules found in the old FanPro Combat Operations rulebook. Many of the original units created for the setting was devised by the original players operating factions of Clans and Inner Sphere.
