Forward from the Author[]
Throughout canon lore there are stories and history of the Terran Hegemony, great hero’s and characters scattered throughout the timelines. What is lacking is substance. There is no depth to this storyline shaping faction. As the military and most state agencies were absorbed by the nascent Star League and the nation itself destroyed during the Amaris Coup and the subsequent Armageddon which followed. There is talk of the Terran Hegemony and its battlefield exploits, its technological superiority when facing the nations on its borders and the skills of its diplomats - backed by the strongest military in the Human Sphere. The likes of the McKenna’s and the Cameron’s seem to be the only names continually popping up throughout the history of BattleTech with the exception of Alexander Kerensky and Arron DeChavilier along with a couple of dozen names from throughout the campaigns to defeat Amaris and his followers. Without these exceptions there are very few whom are noticed in BattleTech history. While this document does not intend to correct this terrible oversight, it is intended to expand on the culture of the Terran Hegemony Armed Forces with the survival of the shadow force rebuilt during the height of the Star Leagues golden age. With the Federated Suns based off of an Anglo-French-Hindi background, the Draconis Combine and the Japanese-Arab-Scandinavian, Capellan Confederation and its Chinese-Russian-Scottish affiliations, the true to form Balkanized Free Worlds League with hints of British and American influence and the ever present Germanic-Scottish heritage of the Lyran Commonwealth. These lay at the feet of the Terran Hegemony and suggest through a reading and discussions on BattleTech Board-game Forums that the Terran Alliance was dominated by the United States and NATO countries while the Terran Hegemony was an amalgamation of American-Canadian-Russian-English-Scottish heritages.
Throughout my writings in the Project: LEGION AU (otherwise known as the Dark Storm Legion AU from previous works) I have tried to give the survivors in the Terran Hegemony-in-Exile an American leaning based off of the history of New Dallas and how the inhabitants of the former United States were not coupling with a single planetary government which did not sit well with their historic tendencies of self determination and national pride. This allowed me to write a separate, parallel development of the Hegemony and their Armed Forces based off of American lineage with smatterings of other national forces which will be added more and more over the course of development. I want to thank my friends and family for putting up with me during these past years as I started and started over and over trying to figure out the right balance to make something work in the Cannon Timeline until a couple of people whom I respect on the Forums just told me to not even try anymore.
I want to thank personally Marauder648 for his motivation and help in reaching out to the various artists. I would also like to thank Maingunnery for his help and motivation and for the use of several of his designs from XTRO: The Society as well as constant question and answer support when I needed other opinions. DragonCat, for without your “Alternate Timeline with Thanks” I would never have gotten hooked and began writing. Cannonshop and JA Baker for all of your wonderful works to motivate and entertain me. The hardest thing to do was to stay on track and even as I made this, the fourth installment of the Project: LEGION storyline is halted while I determine the next direction to take. Please enjoy Terran Hegemony - Project: LEGION
