Chapter 5 - The Wind at my Back, Stars at my feet
"Got good news and I've got bad news."
"What's the good news?" Lt. Diamh asked.
"I know where we are." Amanda said, leaning back from the nav station. It had been 30 hours since the misjump, they still have a month, near enough, to get to the system ahead and look for a source of enough helium. Even running the fusion plant for weeks wouldn't provide enough sheer mass and volume-they could burn the fusion power at over-maximum for months without creating enough.
"Is that the good news, Cadet, or the bad?"
"Yes." Amanda said.
"Where are we?"
"Based on constellation modeling?" Amanda sighed, "We're in the same stellar neighborhood as the Kerensky Cluster." she brought up the images and the digital matching algorithm, "See? Strana Mechty, York, Huntress identified by extrapolating distance and spectral class in visible constellations. "and guess what?"
"We're on the wrong side, if we head for home as soon as we're tanked up? we're going to have to deal with the Homeworld Clanners-and they don't like us much. The Falcons don't have any friends this side of the Veil, and neither do the Inner Sphere."
"RTO Cimbral, get on the black box and send an update, they might not get it for a few months but at least they'll know where we are." Diamh ordered, "Eventually. They'll know where we are eventually."
"How the ****** did we get this far out without frying the whole drive??"
