Chapter 128 - The Glow of a Worm inside a Child's Eye[]

"My sister is bringing a Warship... her swearing in, that's all." Patrick said it more lightly than he felt it, and Victor's image flinched a little.

"So she's better then?" The Archon-Prince asked.

"For a given value of 'better'. She's 'better' enough to convince her bodyguard detail, most of the Rockjacks, and a six hundred eighty thousand ton warship that she shouldn't be compelled to go back in for additional treatments...and she convinced Henry, who's probably the best Mechwarrior I've ever seen to back her up when she released herself on her own recognizance."

"Part of the job of being a leader, is knowing when they're not going to follow your orders." Victor agreed, "I take it she'll be here in a couple of months."

"Yes, Your Highness. She expects to bend the knee, but I thought you should get a heads-up from me, instead of leaving it in Lohengrin's hands to tell you."

"What kind of issues?" Victor asked, "Is she going to croak on the floor? Is she in danger?"

"Not currently in immediate danger. Doctor Hofmann's notes indicate she's got a few immune deficiencies left over from the treatments, but it's been over a year since her last seizure. She's not healthy but she doesn't appear to be in immediate danger...or dangerous to others. Well, aside from being an angry young woman with a Warship and followers and far too high an IQ."

"Oh? do tell-gossip, Pat, your family problems are like a soap opera that I can enjoy at a distance." Victor commented.

"She wants to build a huge damned science project when she gets home. Something to test a few elements of high energy physics and astrophysics, as well as some kind of materials science. Her cost estimates sit around three quarters of a Trillion kroner."

"You have the money now...are you going to approve it?"

"I thought it might be a good idea to ask the Archon-Prince for permission. Some of this stuff is WAY over my head, but the energy numbers suggest it's on par with the damned Manhattan Project proportionally. About half of it involves various uses of Antimatter, and a big chunk of the budget is for a facility to produce the stuff in quantities larger than 'laboratory toy'."

"She what??!"

"Antimatter. In particular something she notes here in her extracts as 'Fullerene Antimatter matrix'." Patrick stated, "Enough to blow a moon up-which is consistent with where she wants to put the facility-on one of the unused outer system moons, so she's at least considering that it might be kinda risky."

"That is...some kind of mad science shit right there, Pat!"

"I'm aware." Patrick agreed.

"Provisionally approved-but only the infrastructure, and slow-walk it if you can. I need to know what kind of danger to the realm your little sister is cooking up before I okay going ahead on full with this."
