Chapter 12 - The Broken Commonwealth[]

LCS Yggdrasil, Mjolnir Class Battlecruiser
Kowloon, Lyran Commonwealth
December, 3146

LCS Yggdrasil, preparing for departure...

"I got what I wanted." Trillian stated, "She's willing to play ball for our team."

The image on the monitor was laced with static.  Julian Davion looked surprised.  "What did it cost you?"

"Not much, for the price of a letter of waiver and a promise to support repeal of the Militia laws, which I was going to push for anyway." she stated, "Also an appointment."

"An appointment? Trillian, what did you do?"

"I took what she started, and I expanded on it." Trillian stated, "Then, I put her where she's useful, Julian. There are going to be some radical changes, soon."

"What changes? how soon?" he asked

"Very soon.  Watch your intelligence reports." she said, and signed off.

Spider Moon Coast Guard Naval Station, Boojum 3, Kowloon System...

"You got what you wanted?" Charles asked.

Sharon nodded.  "I did." she sighed, "God help me, I did.  Now I have to deliver."

"What are we delivering?" Charles asked

"War." she said.  "We're going to rewrite the book one more time, Charles."

"Who?" he asked.

"We're going after Clan Jade Falcon, their navy, their transport assets, and their economy." she turned, "Unrestricted Strategic Naval Warfare.  God help me...no, god won't help me, won't help us.  I guess you should ask the Chaplains to pray for our damned souls, we're going to sink the Falcon Fleet.  if they can't move forces, they're stopped.  Phase one, is intelligence, phase two, will be strategic strikes and raiding. They set the tone with their 'surrender or be annihilated' doctrine, we're just going to match them..for now.  I think I want to vomit."

"It has to be, doesn't it?" he asked.

"Yeah, but it doesn't make it feel less wrong, Charles.  My god, you should be arguing with me!"

"Arguing facts in evidence? Neg." he shook his head, "The Clan has lost their way under the tutelage of a madwoman."

"We may have done the same damnable thing." she argued softly. "I have work to do."

Outside, floating in free fall, were skeletal gantries, and from these would be the wombs that birthed the resurgent Lyran Commonwealth Navy.
