Overview[]

The Riga III-Class Transport Frigate is a canon WarShip, however slightly redesign produced in the Fate Can Be Cruel Fan-Story set in the Hegemony AU's Succession Wars Era. This variant of the original ship introduced in 2800, created by 2ndAcr.

Originally a frontline combatant, the Riga was designed to to undertake long range missions due to it's sizable cargo bays and heavy reliance on energy based weaponry. However, with formation of the Hegemony and seclusion of the its nature, Riga was needed for other duties. Transport for it's troops and other assets in and around Hegemony's secretive locations.

Like many designs from the Star League Era, the Riga was discarded, while Hegemony would repurposed it. Taking away from it's cargo capacity, the ship was made into Transport Frigate, retaining it's original weaponry. However, the ship's Cargo capacities reduction would give way to 13 additional DropShip collars, being able move regiments of troops and other things needed by Hegemony Armed Forces, the HAF.

Additionally, the ships of the class would receive a further upgraded variant to increase it's jump capacity.

Armament and Equipment[]

The Riga Transport in the service of the Hegemony operating in service HAF only differs very little from it's original Riga III upgrade. These Rigas would be noted as being upgraded with additional equipment at the expense of the ship cargo capacity. Including a small Naval Comm-Scanner Suite, allowing to "spot" enemy vessels for other friendly ship with same Suite. Mobile HPG to allow commuication with HAF Bases and Hegemony home worlds. It would still retain its the LF Battery, gives the ship the ability, once charge, to make second Jump through Hyperspace without recharge.

Like the Riga III Frigate, design still has a blend of anti-capital ship weaponry, with blend of long range hitting Naval PPCs and Naval Lasers, where in closer range a Riga could finish destroying its target with it's Naval Autocannons.

The ship has also dedicated Laser bay with blend of Large and Small Pulse lasers to handle conventional fighters that may not be destroyed at longer ranges with Riga III's capital weapons.

Equipment[]

  • This variant of the original Riga III Frigate (2780) was originally posted on the official BattleTech Forums as part of the Fate Can Be Cruel - Part I fan story series.

Variants[]

  • Riga III Class SS Transport Frigate (2828) - Upgrade of Transport Frigate, with adding of Slip Stream Technology, increasing it's range to 480 light years in range. Additionally the ship was given 5 lithium-fusion batteries as part of it's enhanced range and ablitity to immediate jump. Additionally the newly developed Autonomous Tactical Analysis Computer (ATAC) would be fitted on the ship to help it manage the ship's more complicated Slip Stream / Hyperspace Jump technologies. These improvement would come as a cost a further reduction in it's cargo capacity to 16633.0 tons. BV 133,990.[2]
  • Riga Class Frigate - Base line Frigate upgrade of the older Riga Class, with newer Star League upgrades.
  • Riga II Class Destroyer - Based on the original Riga II, this is a aerospace carrier, which sometimes referred to as Destroyer/Carrier.
  • Riga III Class Frigate - Started as a refit of the Riga III, however retaining most of its weaponry and equipment.
  • Riga III Class Frigate (2800) - Refit of the baseline Star League refit. Less costly in Battle Value.
