Faction Updates for Resurgence
Resurgence Begins[]
The news of the ilClan burst forth from Terra across the Inner Sphere. A new Star League was being prepared behind the Fortress Wall. Word of mouth was the fastest as Republic citizens fled to find refuge as Capellan, Draconis, and Clan troops marched on the fallen worlds of the Republic. With the HPG network still in shambles, communication would remain an issue. An issue to be used as an advantage; without the tools and light to fix the Clarion Call, the shattered nations across the Inner Sphere would not so easily form any heretical “Star League” or blasphemous “ilClan”.
Humanity lay in ruins and only the cleansing of Blake’s holy light can save them. While the bastards of the Star League were vicious in their attacks in 3050, they failed miserably in their arrogance. However, where they failed, Blake’s Chosen have learned and corrected.
Resurging from the Deep Periphery, a new day dawns over the Inner Sphere....
The Battle for Terra was lost[]
One important series of details absent from retellings of the events on Terra, echoes the past. Exarch Jonah Levin, Paladins, Knights, and more all vanished. As one of his contingency plans, Devlin Stone had prepared his own Exodus fleet. This fleet, composed of Yardships, Warships, Dropships, Aerodyne craft and Aerospace fighters, waited for their call to engage the Clan Wolf fleet over Terra. Running dark among the field of jumpships without their jump drives, the fleet had a safe haven, hidden from the invading clans. Many of the larger vessels were spread out in dark areas of the solar system to prevent detection.
However, that call never came. When the Jade Falcons came hurtling through the Terran solar system in a mad rush to catch up to Clan Wolf, the Republic fleet knew something had gone wrong. Weeks later, dropships running top tier Electronic Camouflage began arriving, ferrying in civilians and combat commands. Some units were nothing more than a handful of troopers. Other units were a single, nearly destroyed Battlemech with a severely injured Mechwarrior.
Over time, higher ranking personnel began arriving. Knights and Paladins were among the last dropships to arrive. After Devlin Stone surrendered the Republic, the final vessels arrived in one large wave. They had been through hell as Clan aerospace assets engaged them during their escape. Two dropships had to be scuttled and abandoned in the debris field of dead jumpships. Leading the now homeless fleet, the vessel Refuge, a Conquistador, took the last remnants of the Republic beyond the Fortress Wall.

Act 1 - Hell's Breach[]
June of 3152 is when the Periphery exploded into the Inner Sphere. In a massive, chaotic, and short timeframe, every single nation was plunged into open conflict, except for the ilClan, still behind the Fortress wall, still not yet fully in control of Terra.
Resurgence
Certain secondary objectives existed within the Word of Blake campaign. Some of which were to awaken the Hidden Worlds. As correctly determined but, never fully executed, Obeedah, the hidden world in Capellan space was the next stop after the devastating assault on Sian.
A Surprise Foe[]
Precentor Magnus commanded the fleet Light's Will to invade the Federated Suns. Keeping to the similar formations the Word of Blake was known for, he commanded a full Level V of militia and the rebuilt 44th Division, also known as Avitue's Avenging Angels. A number of the 44th were recently thawed from their cryostasis, ready for vengeance on New Avalon. While some maintained their original views of avoiding non-combatant casualties, quite a few took to the mindset of other Shadow Divisions after their defeat. Precentor Magnus gave very limited control of the WMD arsenal to Precentor Avitue. She had remained out of stasis until her 45th birthday, taking part in the initial Periphery efforts.
Similar to her original views of limited civilian casualties, she ensured many hundreds of conscripted Periphery civilians had a chance to choose their new paths within the rebuilding Word of Blake. However, her temper had grown and her severity increased after the Word's defeat by Devlin Stone's Coalition. Once rebuilding was well underway, she entered cryostasis with the rest of her Shadow Division, to await the Resurgence. Obviously, the cryo process had greatly improved by the time she went in, this resulted in far better results both in mental and physical preservation. Additional upgrades over the years ensured that she was one of the first groups of Manei Domini to emerge near exactly as they went in.
Precentor Magnus' third of Light's Will emerged in the Abbeville system in June 3152 to find an entire fleet above the planet. This was absolutely unexpected this far from New Avalon. It was large enough to be a threat to his own fleet, so Precentor Magnus moved to avoid a naval engagement and deployed the militia to the surface. With an additional Level V still in the Periphery as reinforcements and security to hold the invasion corridor, he knew his ranks would be able to replenish quickly.
Some initial fighting took place as aerospace fighters engaged from both sides however, the major naval assets and WMDs remained out of range. Of Magnus' two level IVs, he deployed a single Level III to the surface. The rest of his Level V was split between the fleets at Tangipahoa and Okefenokee and were unlikely to stumble across anything like this fleet. He saw it as a chance to test his men so, would likely wait until absolutely necessary to recall the rest of his fleet if they were needed. Unfortunately, this would likely put him behind schedule as Light's Will continued through their corridor.
Nomad Republic was at their last stop before their exodus into the Periphery to start anew on a series of worlds discovered by expedition teams sent out by Devlin Stone, in the event they were defeated on Terra. Abbeville was working alongside the present Command staff of Nomad Republic so they would be able to communicate with the Inner Sphere. It was an economic boom for the world while the fleet was there. However, the good times quickly ended with the appearance of a fleet in system.
This would be where the Nomad Republic would have a chance to live up to the reputation of Devlin Stone, General Belle Lee, Andrew Redburn, Victor Steiner-Davion, and the Coalition.

Campaign for Abbeville[]
A Battlalion of Nomad Republic warriors from the Triarii Protectors will take on a Blakist Level III for control of the planet.
Federated Suns[]
A deep cover team was able to recover an incredible ally from treachery in his own nation. Little did the team, this ally, his command, or Prince Davion realize that not only was this good timing but, it would be vital to their survival in the Federated Suns. While some would be willing to commit treachery to join the ilClan, others were willing to slaughter untold numbers of Inner Sphere citizens and end worlds to stop the ilClan.
While this was incredible news, it would be overshadowed by the terrible death and destruction erupting from the Periphery...
Notable Mercenary Units
Rimward Wars[]
Precentor ROM had run numerous hypothetical scenarios concerning the invasion of the Inner Sphere. Over the years he had constantly been building up the long range network back into the various Major Houses. Indoctrination centers on outback worlds to bring Blake's Light to a new generation of Inner Sphere residents were a huge part of preparing for these attacks. With the HPG network down, many Blakist agents were able to gain or create credentials for positions to disrupt garrison forces and manipulate the weak minded mercenaries who are only loyal to currency.
Operation Blindside was to reduce the capacity of the fighting forces available to the Inner Sphere states. One of two objectives would be completed, even better if both were. Firstly, the plan was to wipe out a mercenary or house force as well as the force it was engaging. Precentor ROM had a vast number of travel patterns using systems that were no longer on star charts, and even 100 years after the end of the Succession Wars were still undiscovered. Multiple avenues could be used to destroy the forces - a tactical nuclear strike, overwhelming force, orbital bombardment, and even chemical/biological weaponry depending on the situation. At times, even attacks where the Blakist forces were painted up and fielding a specific nation's mechs to trigger fighting took place. It did not matter if the strike took place at the first engagement or a month into fighting as long as the majority of forces were destroyed.
Secondly, the goal was to have more forces from each side be manipulated to engage, where reinforcements would being moving and attacking, without the need of the deep cover agents. Many times the initial strike combined with falsified documents or heavily edited BattleROM would be the only trigger needed to send entire units on the warpath, even without getting regional or national leadership involved. Based solely on standing orders, given the non-existent HPG network, leadership would deploy.
Because of these attacks and manipulations by deep cover agents, seeded throughout the chaos of the Inner Sphere as the nations had turned on each other and the Republic after Clarion Call, the Rimward Wars, through Operation Blindside was a glaring success. Of special note was the Clan Wolf rehoming. It allowed many agents a golden opportunity to infiltrate the Clan and various military units, many of which were taken to Terra. Those left behind were able to sow unbelievable levels of distrust in the Clan leadership and instigate violence. While the remaining Clan military forces attempted to maintain peace, the mercenary and Free Worlds invaders were carving out many planets from the dying Wolf Empire.
With the primary objectives being completed there was little chance of peace or even uniting of the various factions - Free Worlds League, House Steiner, Jade Falcon, Hells Horses, Wolf Empire, and even Ghost Bear. Some agents were even able to trigger conflict on the Raven Alliance, Draconis Combine, and Federated Suns border. The Liao retaliation for the destruction of Sian, believed to be caused by the Federated Suns and Free Worlds League, kept their borders occupied. In summary, unity or a new "Coalition", like Devlin Stone's was highly unlikely.
The question continued to grow... Where is the ilClan? The ilKhan? The Star League?
ilKhan of what?[]
Having lost so many of his own warriors in the fighting for Terra, Alaric Ward had to rebuild his forces. He pulled all that he could from sibkos still in Clan Wolf's control as the Rimward Wars continued to escalate. With attacks on all sides as Lyrans, Free Worlds, and mercenary forces invaded his near defenseless former region of space, his crumbling "Wolf Empire", he began trying to solidify his position as First Lord of the Star League he was attempting to establish. With the new Falcon Khan in the Jade Falcon OZ not sending reinforcements, all he had to draw from were his Clan Wolf cadets, the Jade Falcons on Terra, the Fidelis who remained with him, and finally, volunteers and conscripted Inner Sphere personnel from his shrinking territory.
Keeping the Fortress Wall intact was all that was keeping the Dragon from tearing into his young Star League. By now he had established himself a small version of the Terran Hegemony. In the ilClan's control were:
- Caph
- Sirius
- Yorii
- New Earth
- Rigil Kentarus
Through New Earth was his connection to the Wolf Empire and Jade Falcon OZs. However, what reports he could receive on Terra showed his connection to both were being chipped away by border raids from all the ilClan's neighbors. Clearly, he was not respected as First Lord and not respected as ilKhan. This was on top of having a shattered Touman. He was in a position where he had to wield his naval assets to such a degree as to deter further enemy attack, rather than attempt to be victorious in far more ground engagements than he had the personnel to fight in.
While Alaric Ward was not able to find out the meaning of Discordant Mantle, Hell's Breach, Shadowed Depths, or Lightsbane, he knew something bad was on the horizon. Something of such a degree that it would test the very soul of the ilClan and the caliber of his own leadership as ilKhan.
Act 1 Summary[]
So begins the return of the Word of Blake. All hell has broken loose across the Inner Sphere. This is a summary of the events that have taken place. Nations Rimward and Spinward of the Inner Sphere were the initial drives of the invasion fleets. Clearly with overwhelming force and a far superior logistics chain than the Clans had in their own invasion. This was also backed by the new vessels discovered in the Raven Alliance, the Swordships.
Also seen was the reemergence of the Erinyes. The Word of Blake entrance was meant to be devastating. The Raven Alliance is being overwhelmed. The Draconis Combine has been nearly cut in half. The Federated Suns are about to be hit from two angles as the Blakists were only blunted by Nomad Republic, Taurian Concordat, and Calderon Protectorate. The Capellan Confederation has lost its leader and Capital World. The Magistracy of Canopus is entirely dead as a nation of influence or weight but don't worry, the "Pleasure Cruise" is still out there.... Meanwhile the other nations are dealing with the Rimward Wars.
While the Rimward Wars were taking place across the Inner Sphere thanks to Discordant Mantle distributing the activation messages through the HPG network that has been non-functioning for years and still couldn't be used, the operation was named Rimward Wars originally due to the first leg of the operation in kicking off the fighting among the Federated Suns, Capellan Confederation, and Free World's League. Mercenary, House, and Clan units were being deployed under false orders across nearly every border that a deep cover WoB agent had been able to embed. Clarion Call and the years of confusion and needless fighting was the perfect opportunity for the Blakists and they took full advantage.
Finally we see what Alaric has been up to. Rather than the Republic behind the Fortress Wall as a formidable force, he hides behind it because he has nothing but naval defenses for his new Star League other than his decimated ground forces. His own nation is in shambles, he is only now, over a year later, getting full control of Terra. He is still haunted by Devlin Stone and now knows something bad is coming, even though he does not yet know that the Word of Blake is back or what Shadowed Depths and Lightsbane are.
The readers are given insight into a newly revealed Hidden World and a taste of what Shadowed Depths involves. However, it has not yet been initiated by Levin. War Party will be involved in the second "act" of Resurgence, Inner Sphere Aflame. During the Resurgence they were navigating through various worlds and retrieving Republic personnel and equipment while fighting minor battles to secure additional assets in the form of Battlemechs, ships, weapons, and equipment. Yes, they have had run ins with now more openly moving Word of Blake forces - Precentor ROM's forces to be exact.
Author's Notes:
Operation Ursus Major was a first major retcon of the CGL storyline. If we are going to have a civil war in the Dominion, we are going all in, not having some silly "vote" and minor fighting that didn't make any sense. This entire situation stunk of Jihad/Dark Age plot kills when it came to Hjlamer Miraborg and Lars Magnusson. No, Lars was saved, brought to Federated Suns space, there is an actual civil war between Clan Ghost Bear and the Rasalhague citizens, and Alpha Galaxy decimated the naval Rasalhague forces before then travelling to Federated Suns space to align with Julian Davion.
One point to address for Nomad Republic is the possible question of why weren't the ships of HomeFleet and War Party involved in Terra's defenses? Because the Republic would have nothing. If involved, sure, they may have broken the Wolf and Jade Falcon fleets but, then there would be a handful of ships for the victors of three decimated faction's ground forces. The victor would soon by wiped out by the next invading force, even if the Fortress Wall preserved them for a short amount of time, similar to the worrisome situation Alaric finds himself in. Stone sacrificed Terra to save his nation.
