Overview[]

The Pride-Class Destroyer Escort is a Clan designed Warship, intended providing protection to Clan unarmed convoys of merchant traffic.

This ship was used in two Alternate Universe, created by fan writer AlphaMirage. Ship featured in this article, as main variant featured in his fan story Hidden Hope, fourth entry in the Golden Lion AU.

Both Class's appearances will be listed in this article, one has slightly different weapons arrangements.

  • Wiki Technology Note
Due to nature each AU, the ship uses mix technologies which would already be considered extinct by Clan Standard technology or introduce earlier in canon the Battletech Timeline.

Known Ship History[]

Golden Lion Lore[]

The Clan Homeworlds are a dangerous place to be an unescorted JumpShip, Clan Mongoose and others regularly issue Trials of Possession for cargoes, crews, and dropships. With its extensive cageworks around the Hellgate system for Merchant and Warships Clan Hell's Horses needed a reasonable small escort ship to protect their merchant traffic from raiding Ghost Bear task groups from the Valkyrie Aerospace Galaxy. The Pride class Destroyer Escort was thus built in one of the smaller cages that otherwise would be building Merchant Jumpships. With its forward facing weaponry the SLS Pride and its sisters served as a superb escort for jumpships and the larger Hellgate Battlecruisers that could not withstand aerospace assaults by Ghost Bear and later Clan Wolf during the Wolf War. Post-Wolf War since it was already in production and the Horses' Cageworks were less affected by Wolf Raiders (unlike Mongoose or Ghost Bear) Clan Hell's Horses was in the lead position to take advantage of ilKhan Leo Shower's rearmament project to build up the Clan fleets where it would bulk out Clan Naval Stars alongside the Coriolis Corvettes and a steady stream of assault dropships manufactured by Clan Ghost Bear.

Katherine, White Wolf of Ragnarok Lore[]

History - Unfettered by the economic constraints but respecting the danger of the post-Jihad Warlord era Clans Diamond Shark and Snow Raven endeavored to create an 'inexpensive' escort for their Potemkin Transports that could be manufactured in jumpship sized slips. Somehow Clans Stone Lion and Thundebird found out about the design process, stole the plans (or were given them by a third party, the Sharks suspect the FedSun's DMI while the Ravens blame LyrCom's Lohegrin), and began constructing the design before the Sharks and Ravens could.

The first ship, the CSL Pride, was launched from Clan Stone Lion's Csesztreg Cageworks in 3077 and immediately suffered complications with the Improved Clan-Tech weaponry and Hargel sold to them by the Diamond Sharks. Finding no solution to the problems the weapons were returned in pieces and along with the Hargel replaced with Federated Suns sourced ones. This was not the end of the problems however as 'bugs' (or 'birdies' as they called them) continued to creep into the system. Ever resourceful the Stone Lions tapped experts from the Lyran Commonwealth's Port Sydney Yards for troubleshooting. Amazingly this seemed to work and CSL Pride was cleared for full duty just in time for CTS Anguish to launch from Kirin Orbitalworks five months later which joined the Astarte Super-Battleship CSV Perigard Zalman as the only Warship built in the modern era without Snow Raven help.

Unfortunately, the Anguish's Inner Sphere manufactured components were held up around Santiago IV by Clan Goliath Scorpion and the Thunderbird jumpship they were traveling on detained due to suspicion of Bandit Smuggling despite receiving pre-authorization. Only the personal intervention of Khan Magnus DelVillar (via HPG) persuaded Khan Kelton Myers to relent and allow the jumpship free passage up the Exodus Road.

It was not until 3081 that the first 'Pride' class destroyer CSR Despair was released from Clan Snow Raven's Quatre Belle Yards, a year behind schedule. It celebration was short lived however as three months later CSL Ambition joined CSL Pride in the Stone Lion Touman much to the dismay of Khans Naomi Nagasawa and Broderick Sukanov. It was not until late 3081 that the CDS Hunger became the first Warship completed at the Diamond Shark's new Syrstart Yard in the Chainelaine Colonies.

Weapons and Capacities[]

Armament - As a lightweight Warship the Pride class don't have a devastating punch against their peers however that does not mean they can be ignored. Two NAC/35s occupy the bow of the warship providing a pocket Warship killing blow. Five Manta Ray launchers support the bow guns providing Fast Attack Craft killing firepower for any commander willing to close. Each corner provides a quad NL/45, Screen Launcher, and Piranha missile launcher. The forward corners house paired Killer Whale launchers while the aft corners have triple SCL/2 mount for aerospace defense. Quad NL/35 and SCL/3s reinforce the aerospace defense in the vulnerable rear arc. Paired Barracuda and quad MNPPCs provide amidships protection in the broadsides. A total of 12 clantech Anti-Missile systems and other standard weapons protect against aerospace and missile attack.

Additional Capabilities - A Star of Aerospace Fighters and two Points of Small Craft, typically Scarab Boarding Craft, along with 75 Marines are embarked aboard this destroyer. With 1.8 kilotons of fuel and 32.1 of cargo the Pride class are well provisioned for extended patrols and long escort missions up the Exodus Road. A small Naval Comm-Scanner Suite allows the Pride better awareness of impending threats to their escorted jumpships.

A single dropship collar was added late to the design and the blueprints the Stone Lions and Thunderbirds acquired were only mostly complete. This flaw unfortunately makes it difficult to embark bulky cargo such as missiles. However, only the Pride which was built before this error was realized suffers for it and has led Stone Lions to brag they finished the ship before the birdbrains finished the blueprints.
