Description[]
The Okha Missile Tank was commissioned from Luthien Armor Works within a week of the surrender of the Capellan Confederation to the armies of the Federated Suns. Coordinator Takashi Kurita feared the results of adding the Confederation's industry and soldiers to the arsenals of the hated Davions, and began a buildup aimed at preventing the legions of the AFFS from simply rolling over the armies of the Dragon by weight of numbers.
As such the need was for a combat unit with enough effectiveness to be at least a useful adjunct to real fighting power, and an absolute maximum ease and speed of production. Luthien Armor Works delivered exactly what was asked of them - a light tank so minimalist that even the guidance packages were omitted from its main weapons.
Okha was conceived by the fan writer, Vallas for his duology of fan stories Tell The World That We Tried and If We Turn To Dust. He featured it in story's own Technical Readout: 3024 Tell The World That We Tried. The setting where technology advanced slightly quicker than in Canon thanks to the duology heroine recovering them.
Deployment[]
The 'Supported BattleMech Regiment' model Takashi Kurita's reforms pushed through across the DCMS permanently matched each 'mech regiment with an aerospace wing, a regiment of conventional frontline combat vehicles, three regiments of Ohkas and related derivatives, four battalions of conventional aircraft, and five regiments of foot infantry. Within five years, only a handful of regiments in the most secure backwaters of the Pesht District remained unconverted, and 'independent planetary militias' were beginning to appear equipped with the new tanks.
The Free Worlds League, at that point allied with the Combine, purchased several regiments of LRM-equipped Momobana tanks to evaluate their suitability for licensing, but they added considerable luxuries, like full-featured electronic suites, before putting them into service.
Armament & Equipment[]
The Ohka combines adequate mobility, a substantial number of missile tubes, and five and a half tons of standard armor, while being simple enough to build in converted tractor factories. Its tracks and steering are controlled with manual clutch-tillers, its turret-laying gear is adapted from a popular model of lawnmower, and its search sensors consist of the gunner-commander lifting his head above the turret hatch to locate a target and manually directing the narrow-focus targeting sensors in the correct direction. It is in every sense an expendable unit, down to the conscripts that man it - but in the right place and the right time, an Ohka can do tremendous damage.
Best known of the family of Ohka, featuring the new a turret mounted Medium Range Missile Launcher with twenty tubes, feed with 12 rounds of ammo.
Variants[]
- Okha Missile Tank, the "Momobana" (LRM)
- This variant has the turret mounted weapon featuring a singular 15 tube LRM launcher and pair of Machine Guns split between the turret and front, BV2: 873. C-Bill: 1,733,600
- Okha Missile Tank, the Ume AD (AA)
- Mounting a single Autocannon 2 in the turret and a Machine Gun mounted forwards, with half ton of ammo for MG and 45 rounds for AC/2. BV2: 369
- Okha Missile Tank, the Yanagi (Command)
- Light Mobile HQ vehicle, with single ton of communication gear for basic battlefield coordination. The Vehicle features pair of Six-Tubed Short Range Missile Launchers in the turret, with single ton of 15 rounds of ammo for both launchers: BV2: 479
- Okha Missile Tank, the Kashi (Artillery)
- Basic mobile artillery vehicle, designed haul a forward mounted Thumper Artillery Gun with two tons of ammunition for 40 rounds. Considerably slower than other variants of the Okha moving barely at maximum speed of 32 Kph. The vehicle was not terribly popular with FedSuns military having captured the factory preferring the vehicle towed Thumper over this vehicle mounted example. BV2: 288

Notes[]
- Image Used is composite of Korvic Tank and the Harrasser Hover Tank.
- The Technical available of this unit and it's variants by 3024, however some technology including MRM launcher did not appear until 3060s at most. Should someone use the MegaMek file, remember to list this as unofficial/custom and set the year as far out as possible to avoid it not being playable.
- Battle Value of this vehicle and it's variants differ due to the differences in builder programs used. Wiki used the MegaMek Lab program and older Solaris Skunkworks was used to make this vehicle. The files used to make them were unavailable, so the MegaMek Lab was used in it's place which is currently the most update file available.
