Overview[]

The M5.2-Class Drone Destroyers are co-inhabited type WarShip, where human and cybernetic intelligence of the ship would together form a crew. The new variant of the previous M5.1 Class Drone destroyer, which was solely unmanned. The new version of the ship offers additional options previous classes could not offer.

A creation of monbvol, the ship is a fictional upgrade from the original Casper Drone Warship and improvement of the M5.1 Casper Drone/Destroyer that was perfected by the Star League in Exile. The ship was originally introduced for the fan story Weapons of War Saga: The Director-General and her Knights and Strategos (A Great Captain Roberts Tale!!).

Unlike previous models of Casper, the M5.2 and it's sister 5.X variants were an upgrade which houses uniquely sapient Artificial Intelligence, whom would developed into full personality and utterly loyal Star League and Director-General.

Class History[]

With the work establishing infrastructure going well in the Lazarus system, a another concern began to arise in the refugee fleet of AIs. Their hulls did have maximum service lives that were about to be reached.

For many it was decided rebuilding them to the same standard as Victoria would suffice, but for some of the especially older hulls a more extensive refit was needed.

So it was decided to copy the Advanced Robotic Transport System Bays from the M9 and throw some on the hulls. The original Lola II hull was designed with hanger bays in mind so this was a relatively simple matter. Adding ARTS small craft bays likewise was not terribly difficult, system would now service the fighters and small craft with minimum human assistance needed.

But to make room for all this and human crews to help maintain everything that the drones could not the firepower was significantly downgraded with the removal of all remaining naval autocannons. To help compensate the nose and aft naval PPCs were relocated into the now empty autocannon bays.

The removal of the self destruct devices finished bringing the available mass and volume for cargo to an acceptable fraction of the hull's overall mass.

Canonity[]

This Casper variant has never existed in canon. However, the M5 Casper Drone Warship itself is canon.

Armament and Equipment[]

The redesign hull of the M5.2 would retrofitted for humans to be part of the crew. Which would led to the removal of some system and movement of other... Like M5.1, the design's armor is protected by 680 metric tons of Ferro-Carbide armor, like the Clan variant of the Lola III. The ship's systems include;

Command Variant[]

  • M5.2C-Class Drone Destroyer - Command variant, which originated with the SLS Billie Hoel after she and her hull had taken significant damage during Sons of Plunder War. As a Command variant M5s, as exceedingly few and rare as those were with Lady Cameron's fleet, also facing need of a life extension refit found themselves with even more room to work with so it was decided that they would take on an additional tender role for the formations they were meant to lead. The Command only significant variation of the M5.2 baseline, would be inclusion of the powerful Autonomous Tactical Analysis Computer (ATAC) which includes 50 drones, including Robotic Drone DropShips & Aerospace Fighters. Cost: 17,721,638,000 C-bills, BV (2.0): 55,487

Other M5.X Class Variants[]

  • M5.1-Class Drone Destroyer - First upgraded variant of the 5.X series, the improvement of firepower and speed over the original Casper Drone.
