Description[]
The Dominion Class Combat DropShip were the first attempts by the Taurian Concordat Navy begin process of developing capital weaponry armed vessels in hopes developing into functional Warship. The ship design being base Union Class vessel, repurposing the design into a form of fire support vessel. The Combat DropShip, featuring AR10 Capital Missile launcher, with newly developed "Sub-Capital" Laser weapon, reduced power of a Naval Laser, but able fit into a Dropship.
The Class was refit of existing and ability to produce the ship in serial production. However, due to teething issues, the concept provided to be not as effective.
- Wiki Note
- The ship was conceived by Fabius Maximus for his fan story The Bull and the Genie. The ship is set in a universe where certain technologies were developed before their time, this class of Combat DropShip what would become a Pocket Warship type Dropship is in canon. The term was in this setting, but very rarely.
Class Deployment & History[]
The Nadir of the Class experience occurred in 3035 when a Marian pirate band disabled and captured the TCN Wilson River, forcing it to be destroyed by a Concordat naval strike. After this, most of the class were modified, losing their capital ship missiles, and being refitted as (somewhat cramped but well protected) conventional Unions. The last unmodified member of the class, the TCN Timmis Lake, found itself (briefly) enjoying the honor of being the first TCN warship to engage a Clan McKenna Class Battleship.
Armament[]
Based on a Union Class Dropship hull, to take advantage of the already existence infrastructure, the Dominion mounted two AR-10 launchers with fairly large magazines, along with eight large lasers and two sub capital lasers, along with a considerable armor belt. the price it paid was the loss of all secondary systems, making it very much a one trick pony. I addition, mounting the SubCapital Lasers in independent sponsors made it impossible to concentrate fire--they could reach out and touch an enemy, but very seldom did enough damage to be worth the weight in the opinion of commanders. Being first designed before the development of AMS systems, the Dominion never had anything like an adequate anti-fighter or anti-missile fit, and were thus chained to other escort ships. A number of other minor issues made the ships unpopular with the crew and admiralty alike.

Notes[]
- Creator's Notes : The biggest problem with the Dominion was that it was a very "tight" ship. Granted, in 3027, anyone else would be very unhappy to run into it, but in this AU, anti-missile systems become somewhat more common more early, and even before they developed them, the idea of small craft serving as a screen was quickly developed. There's also the factor that it's "slow" compared to what the Concordat felt was the minimum combat ship acceleration (4/6).
