Description[]

The DCU-02 Damage Control Unit Drone, the DCU are better known by their nickname, the Repair Spider. The Spiders are quadruped robotic drone using a light Battle Armor type chassis.

This unique drone was created by Maingunnery for Cannonshop & monbvol collaboration stories, Revenants of the Star League.

Overview[]

The DCU-02s are 4-legged robotic drone, which are remotely controlled by a Caspar's advanced AI, acting as it's arms and legs in place of a human crew.

Designed as an emergency workforce for SDS ships, these DCUs are optimized for quickly moving inside ships during combat. Four powerful legs that could keep the robot moving while under variable acceleration, armor for handling accidental collisions, and even a Space Operations Adaptation equipment to help it to perform hull repairs. Its feet have also been designed with the ability to crudely clamp down on things, which helps with moving cargo from and into its cargo storage section. For more delicate tasks it can use its dexterous arc torches as improvised manipulators, almost like a spider's chelicerae.[1]

Deployment[]

Produced at the same time as the original M-5 Caspar Capital Drones, the DCUs were intended up keep those ships for long duration while on station, cutting down need to return to a SDS automated shipyard.

The Star League Civil War's horrors lead by armies lead by Stefan Amaris, lead to the SDS and their support industries destruction. The drones that remained aboard the surviving SDS warships remain in operation. Once the war had over, it was assumed the DCU and it'a larger Warship homes were destroyed by SLDF as it returned to prevent further use of drone technology as they saw it as evil. However, unknown to general public, the Spider bots and their now sapient AI masters survived to continue to serve the deposed leader of the Terran Hegemony, Helena Cameron.

In centuries to come, these drones were important part of onboard AI's up-keeping of their bodies, their automated Warship hulls.

These drones while never quite ceased production among by Kolossus station, whom had maintained small group of them for the massive automated space station's upkeep. When call came for additional combat ships with SDS-like controls were needed, early examples were produced and sent to aid the Director-General of the SLDF in Exile, Helena Cameron's forces to help disrupt Clan Jade Falcon & Wolf forces in 3142.

Other units were deployed under the command of the cybernetic enhanced Human Envoy, Atrocity, with her custom WarShip operating in occupation zone space to maintain it's vital systems and it's large quantity of automated drone crew. The mission had included in long term deployment to disrupting supply lines of the Clans and report intelligence gathered for the SLDF in Exile.

Equipment and Capabilities[]

Using a quadruped chassis, these seemly robotic drones use Battle Armor like chassis, which can trace its origin to Nighthawk Power Armor. However, due to nature of the machine four legs, it would turn the machine is unique. Not intended for combat of any kind, the machine is not armed. It's uses 750 kg. (.75 ton) standard armor protection.

For it's intended use as ship-borne maintenance machine, part of it's package of equipment include pair of Cutting Torches. These seemly extra pair of handless "arms", can crudely grasp things with it's two manipulator-LIKE arms. Additional supplies needed include a built in 200 kg Mission Package Storage unit, where items to be welded or other necessities can be handled.

When hull work is necessary, Space Operations Adaptation equipment, among its features includes namely electromagnetic "feet". This allows Spider bot to walk the hull of the ship or station they're assigned too.

Technical[]

  • Tech Rating: E/X-X-E-D
  • Cost: 1,608,000 C-bills
  • Tech Level: Experimental (Custom Unique)

Notes[]

  • Technology of Robotic Drone Control fitted into a Battle Armor type chassis is fluff. There are no rules to allow this to operate, however a player may treat them as normal human manned quad battle armor. Destruction of the "Trooper" in the armor, is consider robotic AI's destruction.
  • MegaMek, digital version of the Tabletop game, does not allow for robotic controls or quadruped power armor exoskeletons. Thus Light Battle Armor chassis option was used to make this suit.
