"It's good to walk outdoors." Elizabeth admitted.
"It is somewhat uncomfortable, this is fall." Nathan complained. "It should be spring."
"We didn't settle the Northern continent first, because the south continent was...easier to develop." Liz told him, "Have you seen Dinh Diep yet?"
"Why is that important to you?" he asks
She took his hand, "Because you're going to stay." she told him. "You might deploy somewhere else for a mission, but you're going to stay here. This is home now."
"Arrogant." He accused
"Accurate." she told him. "I remember you visited between treatments, Nathan Roshak. You and my brother...and in brief flashes. I remember seeing you through the armorplast window of the tank. You didn't leave, you didn't shag off once your job was done. This is where you belong and you know it."
"That was just curiosity." he said
"Curiosity didn't put a fist shaped bruise on old Doc Etienne's right cheek." she insisted, "I saw that too...besides, your Khan wants more than one hook into legitimate rule. I damn well know you're not the kind to settle for just an enclave. You've conquered worlds."
"And for that, I should visit Dinh Diep?" he asked.
She smiled, "Yes. A man should know as much about his home as he can...besides. I'm thirty and you're almost forty..."
"What has that got to do with-" he confusedly began asked
"It means I'm going to take you up the plateau. You're going to eat my food and drink my booze. I'm then going to-" she stood up on her tippy-toes, and nuzzled his ear, "-pull all your clothes off and find out what this whole 'sex' thing is all about and why everyone talks about it in hushed tones."
He froze, "You want to couple?"
She let out an exasperated sound, "Nathan, how much of that do you think I could have? I've been a terminal patient my entire life. Now I'm not...do you know what it's like to be unable to feel? That's because I do, and I want to feel now that I can...and you're attractive. A handsome man who is polite, smart, and discreet...and I made you blush.
